Coming Soon, “Choose Your Energy: Change Your Life!” From Hay House/Balboa Press

D-1011 CROP WEB COMPI’m pleased to report that I celebrated Valentine’s Day 2013 by delivering the manuscript for my first book, Choose Your Energy: Change Your Life, to my publisher, Hay House/Balboa Press for release in Spring 2013.

It is so fitting that I delivered the manuscript on Valentine’s Day. Writing it has been a labor of love. I am honored to have been entrusted by the Universe to share my message of hope and possibilities with the world. And I am grateful that I had the courage, resources, and support to do so.

Once I began to experience the transformative power of loving myself unconditionally, my constant wonder, joy, and gratitude led to one conclusion: I must find a way to share this great gift with the world. While I believe this book was conceived the moment me taking human form this time around came under discussion, it gained significant momentum at seven major turning points during the past few years. I share those turning points in the introduction to my book.

The first was enrolling in a life coaching certification program offered by the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) in September 2010. The second was launching my first blog in October 2010. The third was beginning to write my clients’ stories of transformation in August 2011. The fourth was enrolling in Christine Kloser’s 2012 Transformational Author Experience in May 2012. The fifth was a combination writing retreat and vacation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the South Jersey Shore in July 2012. The sixth was finding New Dawn Center for Spiritual Living in Aurora, Colorado, in November 2012. The seventh was a three-week writing retreat in January 2013, during which I completed the manuscript.

The common denominator was a process of baby steps through which I embraced and transformed fear so that I might step further into my calling to foster hope and personal transcendence through the power of unconditional self-love.

For your enlightenment and enjoyment, here’s a sneak preview of the seventh turning point from my upcoming book.

Turning Point 7

When I began summarizing how the book came into being, I thought there were just three turning points. Over time, as my journey continued evolving, the Universe added three more. Then, in the final weeks of completing this manuscript, the Universe offered me the seventh and final turning point in the form of a three-week writing retreat in my Aurora, Colorado, home.

In early January, good friends were moving from Virginia to Texas. They asked if my husband, Wilson, and I could join them for the first week to help them unpack and settle in. With the launch of my radio show that week, there was no way I could be away from home without Internet access. Having retired a year earlier, my husband was free as a bird. We compensated for me not participating by having him help them for three weeks.

Originally, I’d planned to complete my book manuscript by the end of October 2012. When new revelation started coming fast and furious in October, it was clear the Universe had a different idea about the breadth and depth of the book. I revised my target date to December 30. By mid-December, when I realized that only force, not flow, was going to produce the book by New Year’s, I switched my perspective to, “It will be done when it’s done,” letting go of all preconceived notions about timing. I’d learned from experience that force is based in fear. Fear-based energy produces less-than-optimal results that rarely last, while sucking the joy out of the process. This book would be fueled by love. The Universe was in charge of letting me know when it was finished. My job was to stay tuned to the Universal frequency and keep taking dictation.

In preparation for my husband’s departure to Texas on January 14, we talked about the potential benefits of having no other humans in the house. (The cats get very upset if I refer to it as living alone; with the three of them engaged in every aspect of my life, including coaching clients, I never live alone.) Still, there were occasions when I referred to the trip as Wilson “abandoning me when I was coming down the home stretch on finishing my first book.” A few times, I even found myself moved to tears when I thought about it. What was going on? I was the one who had suggested extending his trip from two weeks to three. Where was this abandonment energy coming from?

Knowing that tears always signal an opportunity for new growth, I set my intention to receive the insight. I sat alone with my eyes closed and asked, “What form of misery are you remembering or creating for yourself with fear-based thinking, little one?” The answer came immediately. I had confused Wilson’s departure this time for his departure four years earlier, when he left for a three-month out-of-town job assignment that had stretched to three years. When he left that time, I was burned out, eighty pounds heavier, and ten years into a severe bout of depression. Although his taking the job had been a joint decision, I felt abandoned and petrified. Nonetheless, it became the portal to the greatest transformation of my entire life. A success story in every possible way. My psyche was totally forgetting the facts and channeling the residue of leftover fear-based abandonment energy it had found in some ancient dark corner. As I cleared the fear-based lies and illusions and embraced the love-based truth and reality of my transcendence, I stepped back into the light.

The day Wilson left, the writing began pouring from me at an astonishing rate. No force, just flow. Every time I’d think I was finished for the day, I’d receive more insights, run to the laptop to “make a couple of notes,” and find myself completing a new chapter an hour or two later. I continued to eat well, exercise daily, and get even more rest than had been my norm over the previous year. One night I slept for eleven hours straight with vivid dreams in which I resolved a variety of current life dilemmas and got insights into the next chapters of the book.

So what had happened? Wilson was never an impediment to my writing. He was supportive, respectful, and minimally disruptive. His heading out of town for three weeks was an opportunity to remember that I experienced the greatest transformation of my life during the three years I lived without humans in my house because it focused my energy like a laser on what needed attention in my own life. This “retreat” would be equally momentous; this time I would finish writing my first book.

Over the preceding seven and a half years, the Universe had taken me on an incredible journey from burnout and despair to hope and transcendence, to independence and wisdom, to service and community. Whether I live with or without humans, cats, or other species, I am never alone. My Divine Source dwells within me. When I remain free of fear and centered in love, I experience the Divine in every being, encounter, and circumstance. When I stay tuned to the Universal frequency, I constantly receive new insights and suggestions about where to go and what to do. As a conduit for Divine love and light, I have endless opportunities to partner with others looking for a guide on their Journeys to Wholeness. Whatever my circumstances, I know who I am and Whose I am: a unique cocreative expression of the Divine.

What’s love got to do with it? Everything! Spread your wings, close your eyes and always trust your cape!

The Power of Plan B

Plan BMany of my clients worry about not having enough money, especially during retirement. Our first strategy is to recognize the roots of their Fear-based scarcity mentality and exchange it for a Love-based abundance mindset. From that healthier, happier perspective, we develop an “Anabolic Plan A” for their future, one that is based in fueling their Core Energy with:

  • Love: I nurture and encourage myself in healthy ways.
  • Respect: I honor my choices. I do the best I can with the Love and Light I have at the time.
  • Curiosity: Instead of judging, I wonder why.
  • Compassion: I acknowledge and value my feelings.
  • Gratitude: I appreciate my life. Everything’s an opportunity.

Empowered by a more-constructive octane, they more frequently find themselves living in a state of generous, effortless, gracious Flow filled with:

  • Faith: I am confident that Love is the greatest power in the Universe;
  • Hope: Universal Love is always unfolding the Highest Good for all, in all, through all;
  • Prosperity: My Universal Source is excellent, limitless and reliable;
  • Peace: I relax into all that was, is and will be; and
  • Joy: Whatever my circumstances, I know Who I Am and Whose I Am.

Despite the best intentions, anyone can have a day when Hope is hard to find. For just such times, I recommend having an “Attractive and Affordable Plan B.” The mindset is not one of running away from Scarcity but embracing as-yet unexplored options for greater Prosperity. There are many incredibly desirable and cost-effective places to live. Magazines such as International Living specialize in helping you identify your particular dream destination.

I used to refer to this as the Belize Plan, but given the ever-expanding list of options, I now just call it Plan B. Whether you resonate to Bali, Ecuador, Italy, Costa Rica, Spain, Belize, Ireland, Panama or another paradise, there will always be a place where you can live comfortably while being of service to others. Choose Your Energy: Change Your Life! Trade Fear for Love, Pessimism for Optimism, Drudgery for Delight. Check out my Choose Abundance board on Pinterest for some possibilities.

Simmering Your Way to Success

Simmering Your Way to SuccessOne of the core affirmations of Reiki Practitioners is, “May I learn my lessons quickly and gently and help others do so as well.” The Universe continues to provide opportunities to practice what I preach multiple times a day. Here’s the latest reminder on trusting and following your energy.

Over the past couple months, I’ve continued to implement the re-branding of my practice through my many Social Media platforms. During the first 11 months after I first launched my coaching site, what began as a very simple web presence, had grown and expanded to be quite robust and a bit too complex.

When I, the chief architect of the site, began finding it difficult to remember where I’d put specific content and found myself having to hunt for it on my own site, I knew it was time for some overall synthesizing and streamlining. The most logical and efficient approach was clearly to combine the desired revamping with the overall re-branding, while also creating more prominence for blog, newsletter, book, radio show and signature programs at the same time. Though that strategy made sense, every time I thought about the downstream implications of tinkering with all the highly interconnected bits and pieces, I’d begin hyperventilating at the sheer magnitude of what was before me.

So, I drank my own Kool-Aid. I didn’t force myself to do anything before I felt ready. I respected my intuition in the form of my energy for the project and set my intention to open myself wide to knowing what the best approach would be—content, design, flow and timing. Then I let the project simmer on the back burner while I kept moving forward in other areas of my life. I checked back in occasionally, took the lid off the stockpot, gave it a stir and a taste, adjusted the seasoning, put the lid back on and went about my other business. Many, many other projects were started and completed during those few weeks. All the while, the web revamp stew kept simmering, becoming richer and more flavorful every moment. Bubbling away, preparing for its perfect time.

Then one morning I awoke and knew the stew was ready. I removed the lid and asked one of my favorite questions, “What if this is going to be much easier than I think?” Having opened the door to that delightful possibility, I immediately anchored it more deeply as an affirmation. “This web revamp is going to be easy, fast and fun. Effortless. Joyful. Creative. Rewarding. Just what my coaching practice needs to help it grow in new directions and touch more lives in support of the Highest Good for all.”

And, guess what? That’s exactly how it went. Remembering that early success always fosters flow, I started with the part I knew would be simple. That positive fuel helped me continue to flow right on into the more complex elements, one page, one feature, one graphic, one sentence, one word at a time. By the end of two days, I had reworked the entire site. I put it aside and slept on it—the creative equivalent of putting the cooked stew in the refrigerator overnight because the flavors will become even richer by resting. The following morning, I awoke energized and with a fresh perspective. I invested an additional half day tweaking bits and pieces, adding things I’d forgotten and then launched it all into the Universe.

I love the result and trust you will too. I’m always happy to receive encouragement and suggestions for improvement, so please email me with any ideas or thoughts you may wish to share.

Remember, whatever you have before you, if you can believe it and begin it, you can achieve it. In the words of country singer/songwriter, Kathy Mattea, “Spread your wings, close your eyes and always trust your cape!”

Recalculating

RecalculatingToday, as I was driving down the highway to meet a new friend at a new Starbucks, I drifted and missed my turn. Fortunately, my faithful GPS, Chatty Cat, alerted me to my oversight with the immortal word, “Recalculating.”

I know people who go absolutely ballistic when their GPS says that word. They hear it as a criticism and insist the GPS is really saying, “You stupid, worthless cow. How could you have missed that turn. I gave you plenty of notice. You never listen to me. You’re such a screw up! We’re through!”

Fortunately, Cat has never treated me that way. When Cat says, “Recalculating,” I hear, “No worries, Honey, you made a boo boo just now. Give me a couple of seconds and I’ll get us back on track.” Cat is my faithful GPS Angel. She never becomes impatient or abandons me as a lost cause, no matter how far I stray off the path. She keeps on loving me unconditionally while she recalculates for the umpteenth time, providing me a new path to my destination.

The Universe works the same way. No matter how many wrong turns I make, even if it takes me twice as long to get there as I had originally planned, the Universe continues to loyally guide me toward the Highest Good. There are no mistakes. Everything’s an opportunity. There are many paths to the same destination. The Journey is only further enriched by more opportunities to learn additional lessons along the way. Today’s missed turn is a perfect example: it wasn’t a mistake, it was the vehicle through which I’d get this insight to share with you.

You are Loved and Loving, Blessed and a Blessing. Namaste.

Technology Happens

Spreadsheets Happen! As I shared in last week’s blog, my talk radio show launched on the EmPOWERment channel of VoiceAmerica.com on January 9, 2013. Based on previous professional experience, I felt comfortable with my ability to design and facilitate an engaging show. My primary anxiety was the technology. Although I’m fairly technology savvy and had spent considerable time in training, practicing and testing, Life has taught me that technology snafus can happen, even to the most skilled and prepared user. I had a number of moments when I feared an unanticipated technological glitch would throw me, my guest and the broadcast into a tailspin. Being mindful, I knew channeling fear-based energy in the form of worry was not going to help. Because, as Einstein taught us, everything is energy and energy attracts like energy. So, in the days leading up to the broadcast, I spent considerable time reflecting, meditating and journaling to transform all Fear into Love so that I wouldn’t unwittingly have my own energy attract the very thing I dreaded.

The morning of the first show, I set my alarm to rise five hours before program launch so I’d have plenty of time to prepare my body, mind, heart, soul and technology to ensure an optimal uplifting experience for myself, my guest and my listeners. In response, the Universe sent the perfect preparation two hours before the show. Knowing that fear of the IRS has pulled me off-center in the past, the Universe sent me the acid test: an income tax return technology glitch. Thinking I was just getting a jump on my 2012 tax prep, I attempted to enter a few numbers into a tax prep spreadsheet I created many years ago. In the process, I discovered an apparently long-standing error in some formulas (fortunately, nothing that would require ammended returns). You may ask why, on the morning of my first radio show, was I even working on a tax return that isn’t due for another 3 months. I asked the same question. I can only tell you my tax return is where my energy led me that morning. And when I looked underneath that energy to determine whether there was any fear involved, there wasn’t. So I took some deep breaths, dove in, found the discrepancy, figured out how far back it went and, in reasonably short order, fixed the error in five years of spreadsheets.

When I succeeded, with another hour to go before broadcast, I was exhilarated. The Engineer in me loves analyzing and solving a puzzle. I was walking on air. I could handle unanticipated technology glitches, even ones involving the IRS! What better confidence builder could the Universe have sent to me on the morning of my first broadcast? It wasn’t a mistake, it was an opportunity. An opportunity to remember once again that I have all the wisdom I seek inside me at every moment if I will clear myself of all fear so that I may discern, focus and follow through.

Ta Dah! Namaste.

Transform Your Gremlins From Saboteurs to Allies

Tranform Your Gremlins From Saboteurs to Allies2012 was an amazing year for me. High productivity of the effortless-centered-in-love kind, not the forced-march variety. A non-stop shower of insights and opportunities, opening doors right and left, and I keep stepping across the portals. I am honored by the calling the Universe has entrusted to me and grateful for Its never-ending flow of support.

One of the results you may have noticed last quarter on my blog site and on my coaching website, was a change to the title and overall re-branding of my practice. The shift reflects the ongoing evolution of my work, not a dramatic change. It is still grounded in my experience and the experience of my clients: when you fall in love with yourself, everything else in your life falls into place, personally and professionally.

The new brand emerged in conjunction with synthesizing my coaching paradigms into a consistent holistic model on which to base the many new coaching offerings I have in the works for this year: my book, weekly radio show, cruise, webinars, seminars and workshops. I call this model The Discovery Framework™ .

The foundation of the Framework is this: when you fuel all aspects of yourself and your life with Core Energy of Love, Respect, Curiosity, Compassion and Gratitude, you begin living in Flow. Your life becomes a fluid Journey to Wholeness grounded in Who you are Being NOT What you are Doing. Every breath, thought, word and act—your very presence—fosters a generous, graceful life of Flow permeated by Faith, Hope, Prosperity, Peace and Joy. Work, rest and play all feel the same. Organic. Effortless. Force is not needed to accomplish anything, in fact, its use would be detrimental. Because force disrespects your deepest wisdom and greatest gift: your Intuition.

During individual and group forums, I found myself repeating four words over and over: love, energy, choice and change. Everything is energy. Energy attracts like energy. Love is the most powerful constructive energy in the Universe. Every choice is a choice between Fear and Love. When you fall in love with yourself, everything else falls into place, personally and professionally. Choosing love as your core energy automatically enhances every aspect of your life: your perceptions, opportunities, relationships and priorities. When love transforms your relationship with yourself, it can’t help but transform your personal life, your work and the World.

As I paid attention, the words that I had been using in one form or another from the early days of my practice, Choose Your Energy: Change Your Life, spontaneously emerged as the overarching language for conveying the nature and impact of my approach to the individuals and organizations who would value what I offer.

These developments required lots of deep breathing and self-awareness. I’ve learned to demonstrate genuine respect for my Personal Board of Directors (aka, The Sage, The Guardian and The Muse) when fear overtakes them and they shift into Gremlin mode. Their clever and dire warnings include such classics as, “Honey, it’s hard enough to keep you safe 24/7 as it is. How are we going to manage to protect you if your presence in the Universe gets any bigger? You do this and you might as well paint a big old bull’s eye on your back for all the naysayers to take aim at.”

When my clients report that their fears have reached up and grabbed them by the ankles yet again, I congratulate them. “That’s actually great news. It means you’re on the threshold of a big growth spurt and your own Sage, Guardian and Muse have ‘gone Gremlin’ because they are freaked that they won’t be able to keep you safe when you get that big.” The answer? Here are the insights I share on my coaching website and in my upcoming book:

  • Seek to understand what old concerns have been brought out of hiding,
  • Help them differentiate the remnants of past pain from today’s reality,
  • Remind them that “small” does not necessarily equal “safe” for an adult,
  • That following your authentic path with love and without fear is what “safe” looks like now,
  • Harness their loyalty and
  • Leverage their core gifts of discernment, discipline and imagination to move you forward into the Life you Love.

So how did that particular approach play out for me this year? A while back, I did a couple of unscripted radio interviews with a friend who is a professional radio personality. I loved the process and result so much that I set my intention to manifest a regular radio presence through which I could share my message of hope more broadly and facilitate the ability of others to do likewise.

Just a few hours later, I received a call from a Senior Executive Producer with VoiceAmerica.com, a leader in Internet broadcasting, inviting me to host a weekly 60-minute talk radio program. During the final stages of completing my proposal, I reinforced my intention to manifest three things: peace, clarity and energy. The result? Out of all the proposals submitted, I was one of three hosts invited to launch a new show in January.

On January 9, 2013, my new 60-minute weekly talk radio show, Choose Your Energy: Change Your Life, will begin airing globally on Wednesdays at 11am MT via VoiceAmerica.com’s brand new “EmPOWERment” channel. Each show will also re-broadcast on the channel 12 hours later and be available indefinitely 24/7 through the channel archive. In combination with the 2013 release of my first book, webinar programs, creativity workshops and potential coaching cruise with Royal Caribbean, the radio show will become an integral component of my signature individual and group coaching strategy.

I am often asked whether my Board’s Gremlin energies get stirred up by big opportunities. Yes, when they choose to be gripped by Fear, because that’s what Fear does to us. What do I do when that happens? I do what I encourage my clients to do. The only way I’d know it works so well is that I have the opportunity to practice it myself with regularity (LOL):

  • Pay attention and breathe,
  • Engage with Love, Respect, Curiosity, Compassion and Gratitude,
  • Reassure and redirect and
  • Repeat as necessary.

I look forward to teaching, encouraging and entertaining you all via my new broadcast platform starting January 9th.

Meanwhile, spread your wings, close your eyes and always trust your cape!

Creating a Life You Love

Creating a Life You LoveOften, at the close of the year, we take stock and set goals for the future. We think about the Life we dream of, identifying destructive habits we’d like to leave behind and new, more constructive, ones we’d like to embody.

We all wish to live a life we love. If that’s the case, why does it seem that so few of us actually do?

Creating the life we desire should be easy, but for many reasons it isn’t. Sometimes we’re too busy working, paying bills or picking up kids to give it much thought. Sometimes we don’t know how to get clarity so we put it off until “later.” Or, perhaps, we have ignored what we really want and, instead, created a life that others wanted for us or themselves—ouch.

How to Create the Life You Dream Of
If you aren’t living the life you want, how do you get back on track? How do you get clear on what you want? And how do you stay committed to it?

Here are some steps that can help you get started:

1: Clarity
Before getting what we want we must first know what that is. This may seem obvious but it trips up even the most intelligent people right out of the gate. Take out a blank sheet of paper and write “My Dream Life” at the top. List everything you want to have, do, be and share. From this list generate goals to help get you back on course.

2: Avoid the “Shiny New Object Syndrome”
It’s easy to lose momentum by getting distracted by every new, exciting possibility. Having clarity makes it easier to distinguish those opportunities that help move us forward from the ones that throw us off track.

The next time a new opportunity arises ask yourself, “How will this help me achieve my ultimate goal of “x”? If it doesn’t, you may want to place that opportunity in the “maybe someday” parking lot and move on.

3: Redefine Failure
People who focus on the destination as opposed to the journey also tend to be more critical when things don’t go as they planned. When you fully engage in the process while remaining detached from a specific outcome, it’s easier to appreciate the end result, whether it’s exactly what you hoped for or something you never considered.

The next time you do experience something you label a “failure,” however, try reframing it. Consider that you have just learned how not to accomplish what you intended, and then celebrate the lesson.

4: Give in to Your Primal Instincts
Craving new challenges is hard-wired into our DNA. If it weren’t, we never would have left the cave, invented the wheel or launched into outer space. Ignoring this primal code over the long term can lead to disappointment. So how do you happily succumb to this urge? With more clarity and structure.

Create a list of things you haven’t done yet, but want to do. Be specific and remember the three, guaranteed “no fail” rules when it comes to setting goals you actually intend to achieve:

A. Write it down.

B. WRITE IT DOWN.

C. WRITE IT DOWN!

Putting your list in writing transforms it from a desire into a personal contract with yourself. There is great power in setting a written intention.

5: Go Guilt-Free
Taking time to care for ourselves, guilt-free, is difficult for many people. Sometimes it feels as though things will fall off the rails if we “let go.” But when we do ease up, something amazing happens: the earth still spins and people find a way to manage without us. Taking time off leaves us feeling refreshed and makes us better workers, parents, spouses and citizens. Plus, going guilt-free can be contagious.

Baby Steps
As with anything worthwhile, there is no quick fix when it comes to designing and building the life you desire. These steps can guide you along the path to loving the life you’re living while you’re moving closer to living a life you love!

The Gift of Discomfort

The Gift of DiscomfortWe tend to seek comfort and avoid discomfort.  Comfort is soothing, easy, peaceful.  Comfort is, well, comfortable. But if we explore it more deeply, might discomfort be getting an undeserved, universal bad rap?

Work with me for a moment. Think about the times during your life that you have been comfortable. Comfort with your job. Comfort in your relationships. Comfort with your home. I’ll bet a sense of peace comes to mind. But if you dig more deeply, perhaps also a feeling of boredom and complacency?

I propose that being too comfortable too much of the time can become a detriment. When we are too comfortable and confident we can become stale and lose motivation. We are not as aware of nuances and opportunities around us. This kind of complacency can happen to people, companies, communities and nations. When we lose our constructive energy and Curiosity, we lose our edge, risk stagnation and stop contributing to the Highest Good.

Now let’s look at the places in your life where you encountered your most significant growth. These are generally places when you were outside your comfort zone. Often they were times when you did not feel like you were in control of the outcome. From divorce, and job layoff, to poor health and bankruptcy. These experiences were probably quite uncomfortable. They required creativity, courage and persistence. You had to take calculated risks and have faith.

Looking back on such times, many people report discovering or developing skills they wouldn’t have believed were possible. When the tough time had passed, they found they had grown, learning lessons about themselves and the world, more quickly and deeply than anything they learned during the more comfortable times. And, even more interesting, they enlarged their comfort zone. While they still might not choose voluntarily a divorce or job loss, they are able to see that everything truly is an opportunity. Each time we step outside our comfort zone by being offered an opportunity for greater growth and learning, we enlarge our world by gaining a much broader perspective. The loss we feared becomes a treasured gift.

When an oyster encounters the inevitable sand in its shell, it doesn’t whine, complain and give up. It doesn’t just recede into its shell to wait it out. It decides to lean into the irritation and create something of exquisite beauty and value. It creates a pearl. I encourage you to stretch yourself. Take some steps outside your comfort zone and embrace the strength and growth it fosters. Make your own strand of pearls, one Baby Step at a time. You’re worth the effort.

Minimizing Finance Anxiety

Minimizing Finance AnxietyAlthough uncomfortable, anxiety can motivate constructive action. And by taking that action, we lessen our anxiety while improving our situation. Fueled with Love, Respect, Curiosity, Compassion and Gratitude, here are a few proactive strategies for reducing your money stress:

1: Take responsibility. When you make a less than optimal financial choice, embrace it with Love and Respect, knowing you did the best you could with the Wisdom you had at that time. Be Curious about what led to your decision and why you might choose differently in the future. Demonstrate Compassion by completely detaching from any sense of fear and self-loathing. Responsibility moves you forward. Fear and shame hold you back. Be Grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow.

2: Take action. Assess your situation with Respect and Curiosity, taking any corrective action still possible to mitigate the damage, such as negotiating with creditors or seeking other sources of income. Be Grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow.

3: Find pleasures you can afford. When reducing expenses, don’t cut to the bone. A forced sense of deprivation will make it even harder to stick to your more responsible spending plan. Eliminating all forms of joy can reintroduce scarcity, and anxiety, in response to which many fall right back into the arms of “shopping therapy” which puts you right back onto the money madness hamster wheel. Be Creative in finding affordable joys with which to permeate your Life. Be Grateful for all of your current non-financial assets and leverage them to get the greatest possible return on all of the Abundance already in your possession. A fabulous singing voice, close friends, beloved animal companions, good books, great music, a walk in the park, a drive by the sea.

4: Increase your money wisdom. Be Curious and eager to learn. Seek support and education in coaching, Debtors Anonymous and books on smart financial management.

5: Be patient with yourself. It takes time to get used to diminished circumstances. Accept your feelings with Love, Respect and Compassion and reassure yourself that Life will get easier as you continue to learn and grow over time.

6: Cultivate Gratitude and circulation. When fear and a sense of lack arise, stop and name five things you are Grateful for and find something you can share with others. It may be just one dollar for a homeless person. Or it may not involve money at all. It may be a smile for everyone you meet. Taking time to notice and compliment a helpful sales clerk or a well-behaved child. Appreciate and celebrate all of the good in your Life. Beginning and ending each day by naming at least five things for which you are Grateful is a powerful Gratitude Practice that fosters a sense of Abundance, despite your external circumstances.

7: Hydrate. Warm baths and hot tubs can soothe the nervous system. Water fosters flow.  Drink it, bathe in it, go for a swim, even cry. Water helps flush toxins from your system.

8: Work it out. Exercise, yoga and meditation all help reduce stress and increase clarity.

9: Spend time with people who are supportive. Confiding in people who encourage and soothe, rather than fostering doom and gloom, can go a long way to decreasing your anxiety. A peaceful friend, a Professional Life Coach.

10: Get medical help, if needed. If your anxiety is debilitating and interfering with your ability to function day-to-day, see your doctor.
